New York, Oct 02 (V7N) - Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has stated that President Joe Biden made the right decision to step aside in the upcoming US presidential election after his stumbling performance in a debate with Donald Trump earlier this year. Speaking to BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Clinton explained that Biden's debate misstep was a turning point.

"Once that debate happened, he could not recover, and he did the right thing," she remarked, emphasizing the strategic move.

Clinton, who lost to Trump in the 2016 presidential election, acknowledged that the Democratic Party has struggled to communicate effectively with voters concerned about the economy. She expressed that many of Trump’s supporters feel neglected by the system, and the Democrats had failed to convey how they are addressing these issues.

The upcoming election, now a contest between Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Trump, is set to be tightly contested. Clinton stressed that the stakes are high, warning that the future of democracy is on the line.

"This election will determine whether we continue supporting Ukraine, whether we can achieve some form of peace in the Middle East, and so much else," Clinton said, underscoring the global impact of the election.

Trump, however, has dismissed claims that his policies are a threat to democracy. He has previously indicated plans to reduce US aid to Ukraine and has made bold promises regarding immigration, including the mass deportation of illegal immigrants. Clinton criticized these policies, particularly the aggressive measures Trump and his running mate JD Vance have proposed.

According to Clinton, Trump’s approach to immigration would include military presence in cities to enforce deportations, a plan she described as “Draconian.” She also noted that Trump’s support is built on a mix of economic frustration and a feeling of being overlooked by political elites.

As the November 5 election approaches, polling remains tight, especially in key battleground states where margins are razor-thin. Both Clinton and Trump recognize the significance of these states in determining the outcome of the election.

In reflecting on the challenges of modern politics, Clinton pointed to the pressure politicians face in the era of social media, where being entertaining often outweighs the focus on serious governance.

Hillary Clinton, who continues to play an influential role in the Democratic Party, called for Kamala Harris to defeat Trump and, in her words, "break the fever" that Trump has caused in the American political system.
