"In a catastrophic turn of events, Cyclone Remal has dealt a severe blow to the fisheries sector in Khulna, leaving a path of destruction in its wake. The storm surge and tidal waters breached dams, sweeping away thousands of ponds and cages of fish, shrimp, and crab farms. With staggering losses amounting to millions, the affected regions grapple with the aftermath of this devastating natural disaster.
 
The wrath of Cyclone Remal unleashed catastrophic destruction on the fisheries sector in Khulna, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake.
 
The storm surge and tidal waters breached the dam, inundating the locality and sweeping away 3,600 ponds and 9,115 cages of fish, shrimp, and crab farms. This calamitous event resulted in a staggering loss of 245 crore 95 lakh 50 thousand rupees worth of fishery resources.
 
According to sources from the District Fisheries Office, 38 unions across 9 upazilas of Khulna, including Koira, Paikgacha, Dakop, Batiaghata, Dumuria, and Rupsa, bore the brunt of the cyclone's fury, with Koira, Paikgacha, and Dakop suffering particularly severe damage.
 
In the aftermath, it was revealed that 3,600 ponds spanning 355.30 hectares of land and 9,115 enclosures covering 10,223.75 hectares of land were damaged, along with 1,356 crab/kuchia farms sprawling over 1,590 hectares of land.
 
The comprehensive breakdown of losses incurred includes 3,078 metric tons of fish valued at Tk 66 crore 25 lakh, 2,564 metric tons of shrimp worth Tk 114 crore 68 lakh 75 thousand, 636 metric tons of crab valued at Tk 20 crore 57 thousand, 102.20 metric tons of crab/kuchia worth Tk 18 crore 63 lakh 75 thousand, 270 metric tons of PL valued at Tk 9.5 crore, 20 boats/trawlers/vessels worth Tk 20 lakh, and infrastructure worth Tk 16 crore 11 lakh.
 
Jaydev Pal, the District Fisheries Officer of Khulna, lamented the profound losses suffered by fishermen in the region, emphasizing the extensive damage inflicted upon white fish, prawns, shrimps, crabs, and vital infrastructure.
