Numerous celebrities have been elected to the 18th Lok Sabha in India. Notable first-time MPs include Kangana Ranaut and Arun Govil, joining returning star politicians like Hema Malini and Manoj Tiwari. Elections were held in seven phases from April 19 to June 1 to elect 543 members of the lower house.
Kangana Ranaut won from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, defeating Vikramaditya Singh. Arun Govil, famed for his role as Lord Ram in "Ramayan," won a close race in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Hema Malini was re-elected from Mathura for the third time, and Manoj Tiwari secured his third consecutive term from North East Delhi.
Other notable winners include Ravi Kishan from Gorakhpur, Suresh Gopi from Thrissur, and Shatrughan Sinha from Asansol. Smriti Irani, however, lost to Kishorilal Sharma in Amethi, while Dinesh Lal Yadav lost in Azamgarh.
This election continues the tradition of film personalities transitioning into politics, a trend seen across India, particularly in the South.
