As there is no connecting road in Feni, the bridge built at a cost of Tk 9 crore is not working

Feni, July 11, (V7N)- A newly constructed bridge over the Kalidas Pahalia river in Feni, costing approximately Tk 9 crore, remains unusable due to the absence of a connecting road. The bridge was designed to connect Farhad Nagar in Feni Sadar Upazila with Nawabpur Union in Sonagazi Upazila. However, local residents are facing difficulties as the bridge cannot be used as intended.

Sources report that Hawk Traders, a contracting firm, began construction on 12 Oct,-2020, with funding from the local government engineering department amounting to Tk 8 crore 94 lakh 24 thousand 633. The project was slated for completion by June 6, 2023, but it was only finished this year. Without a connecting road, the bridge remains ineffective.

Abul Hossain, a local farmer, stated, "People from 10-15 villages, including our union, will benefit if a road connects the bridge. We can easily import and export agricultural products. I appeal to the authorities to urgently construct the connecting road."

Zainal Abedin, a local teacher, expressed concern about the potential wastage of government funds if the bridge remains unusable. He emphasized the need for prompt construction of a connecting road to make the bridge functional.

Abdul Gani, another resident, highlighted the necessity of building the connecting road from the eastern part of the bridge to Kashem driver's house in Dakshin Farhad Nagar village of Feni Sadar Upazila. "Otherwise, the bridge will not be very useful to the public," he remarked.

Mahmoud Al Farooq, Executive Engineer of the Feni Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), assured that efforts are underway to make the bridge accessible to traffic as soon as possible.
