Sept 25, V7N - The United States enters this week's Presidents Cup in Montreal as the heavy favorites, continuing their dominance in the competition with a 12-1-1 record since its inception in 1994. Despite the Americans' strong track record, International Team captain Mike Weir is confident his squad is ready to challenge them and should not be underestimated.

Weir emphasized that matchplay golf is unpredictable, serving as a potential equalizer between the two teams. "Golf's golf, and there are going to be challenging matches no matter what," Weir noted. While the U.S. has a powerhouse team, led by captain Jim Furyk and featuring five of the top 10 players in the world, Weir's International Team is embracing the challenge, with Japanese world number seven Hideki Matsuyama as their highest-ranked player.

Weir's squad includes three Canadians, and he is counting on the home crowd at Royal Montreal Golf Club to play a significant role, much like when he defeated Tiger Woods during the 2007 Presidents Cup held at the same venue. He believes the crowd's energy and momentum can be pivotal: "You get the crowd energy, and you can raise your level a little bit. So it can be a huge factor."

Jim Furyk, looking to avoid the disappointment he faced as the losing captain in the 2018 Ryder Cup, is determined to make adjustments to how he runs his team. While not revealing specific plans, he acknowledged that past experiences have shaped his strategy for this week.

The first round of the Presidents Cup will kick off on Thursday with five fourball matches, the pairings for which are yet to be announced. Despite the tall challenge ahead, the International Team, led by Weir, is prepared to give their best shot in an effort to upset the dominant U.S. side.
