Trinidad Sep 27 (V7N) – West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has officially announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. The legendary cricketer shared the news via Twitter on Friday, bringing an end to a remarkable career that spanned over two decades.

Shortly after Bravo’s announcement, Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) confirmed his appointment as the team's new mentor. Bravo met with KKR CEO Venky Mysore during the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL), where discussions led to him accepting a long-term contract.

Bravo will serve not only as the mentor for KKR in the IPL but also for other Knight Riders franchises in various T20 leagues, including Trinbago Knight Riders (CPL), Los Angeles Knight Riders (Major League Cricket), and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ILT20).

The 40-year-old previously retired from international T20 cricket in 2021 but continued to play in franchise leagues. Most recently, he worked with the coaching staff of Chennai Super Kings during the IPL and served as a consultant for Afghanistan during the T20 World Cup.

Bravo's career began in 2004, and he quickly established himself as a key player for the West Indies, especially in the shorter formats. He was part of the West Indies squad that won the T20 World Cup twice. His contributions to West Indian cricket are immense, with 2,200 runs and 86 wickets in Test matches, 2,968 runs and 199 wickets in 164 ODIs, and 1,255 runs and 78 wickets in 91 T20Is.

However, it is in T20 franchise cricket that Bravo gained the most recognition. He played a record 582 matches in this format, scoring 6,970 runs and taking 631 wickets, the most by any bowler in T20 history. Throughout his career, Bravo won a staggering 26 trophies, including five CPL titles, along with titles in the IPL, BPL, PSL, Champions League, Big Bash, and more.

As he transitions into his new role, Bravo continues to make his mark on the game, using his vast experience to mentor the next generation of cricketers across the globe.
