Oct 17,V7N- Thomas Tuchel expressed his commitment to ending England's long wait for a major trophy, as he was officially unveiled as the new manager of the national team on Wednesday. The German coach, who previously managed Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich, will take over on January 1, 2025, with an 18-month contract that runs through the 2026 World Cup.

Tuchel acknowledged the challenge ahead, saying, "I know there are some trophies missing in the federation, and I want to help make it happen." England has not won a major tournament since their 1966 World Cup victory, and Tuchel's appointment signals the FA's intent to change that. His biggest success came during his time at Chelsea, where he won the Champions League in 2021.

Despite his proven track record, the decision to hire a foreign coach has sparked criticism. Former England defender Gary Neville questioned the FA's reluctance to trust an English coach with the role, especially considering the current generation of talented players like Jude Bellingham. However, FA CEO Mark Bullingham defended the move, stating that Tuchel was the best candidate to lead England to success, particularly in the 2026 World Cup.

Tuchel will be assisted by English coach Anthony Barry, who previously worked with him at Bayern Munich. He also received support from England captain Harry Kane, who praised Tuchel as a "top, top coach" after working with him at Bayern.

Tuchel emphasized the importance of building on the foundations laid by former manager Gareth Southgate, who stepped down after England's loss in the Euro 2024 final. "We will build on everything that Gareth and the FA have established and hopefully add a little bit extra to get it over the line," Tuchel said.

He also explained his decision to delay starting the role until January, allowing him time to fully recharge and focus on England’s campaign. Lee Carsley will remain in temporary charge of England for the upcoming Nations League matches before Tuchel officially takes over next year.
