Oct 21, V7N- New York Jets offensive lineman Xavier Newman-Johnson suffered a serious neck injury during the third quarter of the Jets' game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night. He was carted off the field after being unable to move following a block by Pittsburgh's Patrick Queen on an interception return. Newman-Johnson was attended to for several minutes before being strapped to a spine board and taken to a nearby hospital, where he had movement in his limbs, according to NBC.

The injury occurred with 7:22 left in the quarter, marking a significant moment in the game. Newman-Johnson, 25, is in his third NFL season and was playing in his seventh game of the year. This incident has raised concern as the offensive lineman was unable to move after falling to the ground near the sideline.

Originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Baylor by the Tennessee Titans in 2022, Newman-Johnson joined the Jets' practice squad after being released by the Titans in October 2023. He has since worked his way into playing 18 games across his career.
