Oct 27, V7N- Bayer Leverkusen's recent performance in the Bundesliga has raised concerns after a disappointing 2-2 draw against Werder Bremen on Saturday, with coach Xabi Alonso attributing the result to poor defending. Despite twice taking the lead, Leverkusen allowed Bremen to equalize in the dying moments of the match, marking their third draw in the last four league games.

Alonso expressed his dissatisfaction with the team's defensive stability, saying, "We were too soft in defending and they used their chances." He emphasized the need for improvement, noting, "We can and must defend better. At the moment we are missing a bit of stability." This draw has left Leverkusen five points behind league leaders RB Leipzig, currently sitting in third place.

Central defender Jonathan Tah echoed the coach's sentiments, reflecting on the frustration of conceding late goals. "This feels like crap," he stated. "Like a defeat. We just have to keep defending until the last second." Tah took responsibility for the defensive lapses and expressed a desire to improve, saying, "But we will get the chance to silence those talking about us now."

Leverkusen’s struggles have not only affected their league form but also their performance in Europe, as they drew 1-1 with Brest in the Champions League just days earlier. Alonso is aware that the team needs to address these issues promptly to maintain their competitive edge as they aim to build on last season's unbeaten domestic league and Cup double.
