NOV 09, V7N- New Zealand coach Scott Robinson hailed his team's performance in their 23-13 victory over world number one Ireland at the Aviva Stadium on Friday, describing it as the most astute game management the All Blacks have shown since he took charge earlier this year. The win was significant for New Zealand, coming after a disappointing Rugby Championship where they struggled to finish strong in the final quarter of each game.
Trailing briefly in the second half, the All Blacks put the Irish away in the final 20 minutes, showcasing resilience and tactical awareness. Robinson emphasized that while there is still room for improvement, the team managed key moments that swung the momentum in their favor, something they had struggled with earlier in the year.
"I'm really pleased," Robinson said. "We showed so much courage and care on both sides of the ball. It was just a classic test match." He also praised the team's defense and their ability to capitalize on Ireland's mistakes in the second half, including key penalties.
Flyhalf Damian McKenzie, who was stepping in for the concussed Beauden Barrett, kicked all but five of New Zealand’s points, and Robinson was full of praise for his performance: "DMac was mercurial as normal. He trusted his instinct, and it was a hell of a night for him."
The win ended Ireland’s 19-game unbeaten streak at home and was New Zealand’s second consecutive victory over the Six Nations champions, following their win in 2022 after a series defeat. However, captain Scott Barrett pointed out that there were areas for improvement, particularly at the breakdown, as they look ahead to their next clash with France next week.
