Pep Guardiola, Manchester City’s manager, responded to Liverpool fans' chants during his side’s 2-0 defeat at Anfield by reminding them of his six Premier League titles in the past seven seasons. As Liverpool supporters sang "you're getting sacked in the morning," Guardiola raised six fingers toward the crowd, referencing his six league triumphs, including two that were achieved by narrowly beating Liverpool in the title race in 2018/19 and 2021/22.

The defeat marked City's sixth loss in their past seven games, leaving them 11 points behind Liverpool at the top of the table. Despite the poor form, Guardiola recently extended his contract at the Etihad until 2027 but acknowledged the need to improve results.

“All the stadiums want to sack me. It started at Brighton,” Guardiola said, referencing the recent slump. He noted that such taunts are part of the game and expressed his respect for Liverpool, given their history of intense competition.

Anfield remains a difficult venue for Guardiola. City have lost six of their 10 visits there under his tenure, with their sole win coming in 2021 when matches were played behind closed doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Guardiola added, “I didn’t expect that at Anfield, but it’s fine. It’s part of the game. We’ve had incredible battles together, and I respect them.”
