In a show of appreciation for their historic triumph in the under-19 Asia Cup, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has granted an additional sum of Tk 100,000 to each player of the victorious Bangladesh U-19 cricket team. The team secured their first-ever under-19 Asia Cup championship on December 17 of the preceding year.

Today, the athletes and support staff members individually made their way to the BCB headquarters located in Mirpur Sherebangla Stadium to receive the extra rewards. Each player was awarded a significant sum of 100,000 taka, while support staff members were granted 50,000 taka. Sanwar Hossain, the team manager for players under the age of 19, confirmed this information to the media.

The decision to provide additional rewards comes as a surprise, considering BCB President Nazmul Hasan Papon's earlier statement during a dinner with the victorious U-19 Asia Cup players, expressing reluctance towards financial incentives. However, the BCB ultimately reversed its decision, acknowledging the outstanding achievement of the youth team and ensuring they were duly rewarded.

Preparations for the upcoming Youth World Cup are currently underway at the Sherbangla Stadium in Mirpur. The players and support staff members took the opportunity to visit the BCB facility on Wednesday, receiving well-deserved recognition ahead of the global tournament.

The Bangladesh U-19 team emerged triumphant in the Youth Asia Cup by defeating the United Arab Emirates with a significant lead of 196 runs on December 17 of the previous year.

Looking ahead, the 2024 Junior World Cup is scheduled to kick off on January 19 in South Africa. The young talents from Bangladesh are set to participate in the global event with the same squad that clinched victory in the Asia Cup. Mahfuzur Rahman Rabbi, a key member of the team, is scheduled to depart the country on the upcoming Sunday. Bangladesh's initial match in the tournament is slated for January 20, where they will face off against India.
