Sylhet, Jan 7 (V7N) - Fortune Barishal secured a dominant seven-wicket victory over Durbar Rajshahi in the Bangladesh Premier League at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on January 6, 2025. Captain Tamim Iqbal led from the front with a scintillating unbeaten 86 off 48 balls, featuring 11 fours and three sixes, as Barishal chased down the target of 169 with 15 balls to spare.
Shaheen Shah Afridi’s exceptional bowling laid the groundwork for Barishal’s victory. The left-arm pacer took 2 wickets for just 20 runs in his four overs, restricting Rajshahi to 168/4 despite solid contributions from Anamul Haque (39) and Yasir Ali (37). Afridi’s disciplined spell stifled the Rajshahi batting lineup, particularly in the early overs.
Rajshahi’s innings was anchored by opener Jishan Alam, who bounced back from two ducks to score 38 off 27 balls. However, the side lost momentum in the middle overs as Barishal’s bowlers maintained tight lines. Late hitting by Yasir Ali and Akbar Ali helped Rajshahi cross the 150-run mark.
Barishal’s chase began with an aggressive approach, despite the early dismissal of Pritom Kumar for 3. Kyle Mayers smashed a quick 24 off 11 balls before being bowled by Mohor Sheikh. Towhid Hridoy’s lean patch continued as he managed just 13, leaving the onus on the experienced Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim.
Tamim and Mushfiqur put on an unbeaten 76-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Mushfiqur contributed a brisk 34 off 24 balls, while Tamim finished the chase in style, hitting a towering six off Hasan Murad. Their aggressive intent ensured Barishal’s second win in three matches.
Rajshahi’s bowlers struggled to contain the Barishal batsmen, with Mohor Sheikh being the only standout performer, taking 2 wickets but conceding 32 runs in just two overs. The rest of the attack lacked penetration and paid the price for erratic bowling.
With this victory, Fortune Barishal gained two crucial points and boosted their position in the league standings. Tamim Iqbal was named Player of the Match for his masterful knock that set the tone for an easy win.
