LOS ANGELES, United States, Jan 19, (V7N) – Lionel Messi found the back of the net as Inter Miami kicked off their pre-season campaign with a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Mexico's Club América in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Messi equalized in the 34th minute with a close-range header from a Luis Suárez cross, responding to an earlier goal by Club América's Henry Martín.

In the second half, Israel Reyes restored América’s lead in the 52nd minute with a well-taken strike. Miami's new coach, Javier Mascherano, made several substitutions, including taking Messi off in the 66th minute.

Despite América appearing set for a win, Miami forced a thrilling finish when Tomas Avilés headed home a stoppage-time equalizer, thanks to a perfectly delivered inswinging corner from Julian Gressel.

The game went to a penalty shoot-out, where Miami emerged victorious with a 3-2 win in sudden death, providing a promising start to their pre-season preparations.
