Chattogram, Jan 21 (V7N) - Chittagong Kings delivered a commanding performance to thrash Durbar Rajshahi by 111 runs in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Monday. This victory marked Chittagong's fifth win of the tournament, propelling them to second place in the standings.
Naeem Leads Chittagong’s Charge
Naeem Islam, stepping in as an opener, laid the foundation for Chittagong with a brilliant 56 off 41 balls, featuring five fours and three sixes. His 84-run partnership with Graham Clark, who smashed 45 off 28 balls, ensured a strong start despite the early dismissal of Usman Khan. Contributions from Mohammad Mithun (32 off 20) and Haider Ali (25 off 14) pushed the Kings to a formidable 191-8. Taskin Ahmed was the standout bowler for Rajshahi, claiming 2-23.
Rajshahi's Collapse
Chasing 192, Rajshahi faltered disastrously, folding for a mere 80 runs in 14.2 overs. Anamul Haque Bijoy, captaining the side on short notice, top-scored with a run-a-ball 21 but received little support. Akbar Ali’s 10 was the only other double-digit score as Rajshahi's batters crumbled under pressure.
Chittagong’s Bowlers Shine
Naeem Islam (2-8) and Shoriful Islam (2-18) led a disciplined bowling effort, dismantling Rajshahi's batting lineup. Syed Khaled Ahmed and others complemented the attack, ensuring a one-sided victory.
Rajshahi’s Struggles Continue
This was Rajshahi's fifth defeat and their second in two days, following a loss to Khulna Tigers despite Bijoy's century in the previous game. The team remains in dire form, with poor batting performances proving costly.
Chittagong Kings’ dominance cements their position as a strong contender in the BPL, trailing only behind Rangpur Riders inthe standings.
