The Bangladesh cricketing community came together in a solemn moment of remembrance, observing a one-minute silence to mourn the tragic Bailey Road fire that claimed the lives of 46 individuals on Thursday night (February 29th).
In a heartfelt press release, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) expressed profound condolences to the families of the victims affected by the devastating blaze. Players, officials, spectators, and journalists united in paying their respects during the solemn tribute.
"The BCB mourns deeply in the aftermath of this heartbreaking event. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones in this unimaginable tragedy" reads the BCB statement.
"We extend our heartfelt wishes for a swift recovery to those who sustained injuries and burns in the fire. We hope for their speedy recuperation and return to full health. Our thoughts also remain with the dedicated medical personnel and emergency responders who are tirelessly working to provide care and assistance to the survivors," the statement further expresses.
The fire broke out shortly before 10 pm on Thursday in a building housing various establishments, including restaurants, clothing stores, and electronic gadget shops. The lack of sufficient exits within the building posed significant challenges for those attempting to escape the flames.
Health Minister Dr. Samanta Lal Sen confirmed that carbon monoxide poisoning was the primary cause of death, resulting from the inhalation of smoke. The official death toll currently stands at 46 individuals, with at least 75 others sustaining injuries, some of whom are in critical condition.
