On Friday, British player Jack Draper withdrew from the Acapulco ATP final after falling in the third set of his semi-final against defending champion Alex De Minaur.
In an attempt to win the championship again, Australia's De Minaur will take against either second-seeded Holger Rune or sixth-seeded Casper Ruud.
With a 6-3, 2-6, 4-0 lead against Draper, the third-seeded De Minaur called it quits with an unidentified ailment. The Australian acknowledged that, as Draper withered, he had struggled to stick to his strategy.
"I think those are the types of situations which are the hardest to control as a player because you're stuck in two minds," De Minaur stated. "One mind is fine; you can feel the pain your opponent is in. So let's attempt to just make him miss by putting the ball on the court.
"You need to play tennis in the same manner that you did to reach that point. Thus, it's quite difficult to concentrate under those circumstances, and these are frequently the matches that get more complicated."
Late in the second set, Draper was feeling the heat from the ATP trainer and tournament doctor. He had only lost 11 games in three matches to get to the semifinals.
Although the left-hander managed to tie the game, he was impeded by De Minaur's quick run to a 4-0 lead in the third, and Draper halted play after he was broken again.
In his statement, De Minaur wished Draper a "speedy recovery."
"I hope it's nothing too serious, he's a hell of a talent and a hell of a player," De Minaur, who recently finished second in Rotterdam to Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner, said.
