In the second ODI against Sri Lanka at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, top-order batsman Soumya Sarkar achieved a significant milestone by becoming the fastest Bangladeshi batter to reach 2000 runs in ODIs.

Soumya accomplished this feat in his 64th ODI innings, surpassing the previous record held by former batsman Shahriar Nafees, who achieved the milestone in his 65th ODI innings. Displaying his elegant stroke play, Soumya drove Wanindu Hasaranga through extra cover to reach the landmark.

On the list of Bangladeshi batters reaching 2000 ODI runs, Litton Das occupies the third position (65 innings). Shakib Al Hasan and Imrul Kayes achieved this milestone in 69 innings, while Tamim Iqbal needed 70 innings to do so.

Soumya has contributed 12 fifties and three centuries to Bangladesh's ODI format. Unfortunately, his innings ended on 68 off 66 balls as he was caught by Dilshan Madushanka at deep backward point while attempting a reverse sweep off Hasaranga.

Hasaranga's dismissal of Mahmudullah in the same over swung the momentum back in Sri Lanka's favor.

At the end of 23 overs, Bangladesh stands at 132-4, facing a challenging situation in the match.
