Rain interrupted the women's semi-final clash between US Open champion Coco Gauff and Greece's Maria Sakkari on Friday March 15th, with Sakkari leading by a set in the contest to face Iga Swiatek in Sunday's final.
Sakkari, ranked ninth, secured the opening set 6-4, and the match was paused with Gauff serving at 15-15 in the first game of the second set due to rain for the second time. Earlier, the players had endured a 20-minute delay in the eighth game of the first set due to light rain, causing slippery conditions.
After play resumed, Sakkari managed to secure the first break of serve, taking a 5-4 lead before ultimately winning the set.
However, heavier rain halted play once again. The victor of this match will advance to face world number one Swiatek in the final, who convincingly defeated Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk 6-2, 6-1 in the first semi-final.
