BERLIN, March 5, (V7N) – With Bayern Munich cruising toward another Bundesliga title, striker Harry Kane is chasing another milestone: Robert Lewandowski’s single-season scoring record.

Bayern’s recent 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund extended their lead to 11 points with 10 games left. With 30 goals in 24 league matches, Kane is now 11 goals shy of Lewandowski’s record of 41, set in 2020-21. Bayern as a team are 14 goals away from breaking the 101-goal single-season record set in 1971-72.

“I’m in a good position at the moment,” Kane told Bild. “It will be difficult to beat him. I think the chances are pretty even.” Kane, however, prefers to focus on short-term goals rather than chasing records directly, breaking the season into blocks of five or six games to set targets.

Former Bayern and Germany striker Jurgen Klinsmann expressed confidence in Kane’s record bid, noting that coach Vincent Kompany would not stand in his way, despite Bayern juggling Champions League and German Cup commitments.

Stuttgart’s Deniz Undav is also enjoying a prolific campaign, with 14 goals in 20 Bundesliga matches—scoring roughly every 106 minutes. Unlike Kane, Undav’s goals come almost entirely from open play, underlining his effectiveness as a traditional striker. The former Brighton forward expressed frustration that his performances are still undervalued, insisting that he is a classic number 9 who can also operate as a number 10.

Bayern vs. Gladbach: Stats to Know

Gladbach have won just six of 19 Bundesliga meetings with Bayern from 2014 to 2023.

Bayern thrashed Gladbach 5-0 in the German Cup during that period, their largest defeat for Gladbach since the 1970s.

Since then, Bayern have won the last five matches in a row, their best streak versus the Foals since the mid-1960s.
