Bangladesh's all-format captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, has claimed the title of the country's highest-paid player, surpassing star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, following a significant hike in his captaincy remuneration by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

In the latest board meeting, Shanto's captaincy remuneration was elevated from Taka 40,000 to an impressive Taka 1 lakh. As a category A+ cricketer currently representing Bangladesh in all formats, Shanto already earns Taka 7.90 lakh per month.

With the additional Taka 1 lakh as captain's remuneration, Shanto's total monthly salary now stands at a formidable Taka 8.90 lakh. In contrast, despite being a three-format player, Shakib's monthly salary remains at Taka 7.90 lakh.

It's noteworthy that although Shanto captains all three formats, his remuneration will be considered for just one format.

Notably, while there was no increase in the cricketers' salary this year apart from the captain's remuneration, the match fees witnessed a significant rise. The Test match fee was boosted to Taka 8 lakh from Taka 6 lakh, while the per-match fee for ODIs was raised to Taka 4 lakh from Taka 3 lakh. Similarly, the T20 match fee was increased to Taka 2.50 lakh from Taka 2 lakh.
