Veteran Mahmudullah Riyad played a crucial innings, scoring a half-century as Bangladesh posted 157-6 in the fifth and final T20 International against Zimbabwe at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.
Despite a top-order collapse, Mahmudullah's 54 off 44 balls, featuring six fours and one six, propelled Bangladesh past the 150-run mark. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto contributed 36, while Jaker Ali Anik finished with a quickfire 24 not out off 11 balls, including one four and two sixes.
Soumya Sarkar provided a solid start, but Blessing Muzarabani's early breakthroughs and Brian Bennet's crucial wickets left Bangladesh struggling at 15-3.
However, Mahmudullah and Shanto's partnership of 69 runs revived Bangladesh's innings before Wellington Masakadza dismissed Shanto.
Mahmudullah then combined with Shakib Al Hasan for a 39-run partnership, with Bangladesh aiming for quick runs in the death overs. Despite losing Shakib and Mahmudullah, Jaker Ali Anik's aggressive batting pushed Bangladesh past the 150-run mark.
