After emerging victorious in a back-nine match on Sunday January 21, to win the American Express tournament, reigning US Amateur champion Nick Dunlap became the first amateur to win a PGA Tour title since 1991.
At the Pete Dye Stadium Course, one of three courses played this week, Dunlap, a 20-year-old sophomore at the University of Alabama, fired a two-under-par 70, making the winning par putt from just inside six feet on the 18th hole.
He broke Patrick Reed's record of 28-under, achieved in 2014, with a final round score of 29-under 259, setting a 72-hole record low winning score.
