Cristiano Ronaldo has made history once again, breaking the record for the most goals scored in a single Saudi Pro League season by netting his 34th and 35th goals in Al Nassr's final game of the campaign. The Portuguese star's milestone came as Al Nassr triumphed over Al Ittihad 4-2 at home on Monday.
"I don't follow the records, the records follow me," the 39-year-old tweeted after the match.
Ronaldo, a former Real Madrid and Manchester United forward, scored in first-half stoppage time and added another goal with a header in the 69th minute. His impressive tally surpassed the previous record of 34 goals, set by Moroccan striker Abderrazak Hamdallah during the 2018-19 season.
Despite Ronaldo's record-breaking performance, Al Nassr finished the season in second place, 14 points behind champions Al Hilal.
Ronaldo's arrival at Al Nassr in December 2022 marked the beginning of a significant influx of international players to the Saudi league, attracted by lucrative contracts.
In addition to his club success, Ronaldo continues to shine on the international stage. He has been selected for Portugal's squad for the upcoming Euros in Germany next month, marking his 11th international tournament. Ronaldo is the most capped player in men's international football with 206 appearances and holds the record for the most international goals, with 128 to his name.
