Daria Kasatkina and Taylor Fritz secured the women's and men's singles titles at the Eastbourne International on Saturday, gaining significant momentum ahead of Wimbledon.

Kasatkina triumphed over Leylah Fernandez with a 6-3, 6-4 victory, earning her first grass-court title, a year after losing the Eastbourne final to Madison Keys.

Meanwhile, top-seed Fritz became the first man to win three singles titles at Devonshire Park, defeating Australian qualifier Max Purcell 6-4, 6-3.

Sixth seed Kasatkina's win against former US Open finalist Fernandez marked her seventh career title and her first since 2022, following three prior final losses this season.

Reflecting on her win, the 27-year-old Kasatkina said, "It's been a year, but it feels like it's been a few days since last year when I was standing here. It was a tough battle today. It's been a long road to the title, but I am really proud."

Kasatkina, now the 14th seed at Wimbledon, will face China's Zhang Shuai in the first round.

The match against Fernandez saw Kasatkina break serve in the first game and hold her own, including a challenging fifth game with 11 deuces and three break points, which Kasatkina eventually won. She clinched the first set after Fernandez double-faulted in the ninth game.

In the second set, Kasatkina quickly took a 3-0 lead. Fernandez fought back to 3-3 and broke Kasatkina's serve, but Kasatkina broke back immediately and maintained her lead, winning the match when Fernandez overhit a forehand.

Despite the loss, Fernandez was pleased with her performance, having reached her first grass-court final. She said, "It's a beautiful tournament at Eastbourne and I enjoyed my time here. Hopefully, we have many more of these finals. My team has pushed me the past couple of months and the hard work is paying off, so now we have to keep going, working, and never give up."

Fritz's victory over Purcell, who was in his first ATP final, meant the 26-year-old American did not drop a set all week. "I'm pumped. I always feel like I play well here," said Fritz, who previously won Eastbourne in 2019 and 2022. "I kind of just had that feeling coming into the week as well. I did a great job."

Fritz, seeded 13th at Wimbledon, will play against Australian Christopher O'Connell in the first round.
