The Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines was won by Matthieu Pavon on Saturday. Pavon became the first French golfer to win on the current US PGA Tour with a birdie putt at the 72nd hole.
Pavon had a two-shot lead going into the 17th hole, but his lead was reduced to one after he missed a three-foot par putt.
At the par-five 18th hole, he was in a fairway bunker off the tee, and his ball out put him in the left rough.
However, he hit a powerful approach to the green and, with a crucial putt, he saved a playoff by finishing with a three-under par 69 and a 13-under par total of 275. Nicolai Hojgaard of Denmark finished second on 276 after shooting a one-under par 70.
The 31-year-old Pavon won his first DP World Tour win in October at the Spanish Open, which was his 185th appearance on the tough South Course at Torrey Pines, the site of the two-time US Open.
After finishing in the top 10 of the DP World Tour standings, he was awarded a card to the US PGA Tour.
