"It was the duo's second Grand Slam victory, having shared the 2021 Wimbledon crown"
After winning the mixed match earlier in the tournament, Hsieh Su-wei, a veteran from Taiwan, won her second championship at the Australian Open on Sunday by teaming up with Elise Mertens of Belgium to win the women's doubles.
On a steamy afternoon at Rod Laver Arena, the second seeds were too strong for Lyudmyla Kichenok of Ukraine and Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia, ranked eleven, sweeping them 6-1, 7-5.
At 38 years old, Hsieh has surpassed American Lisa Raymond, who was only eight days older when she achieved triumph at the 2011 US Open, as the second-oldest woman to win a Grand Slam doubles title.
It was the duo's second Grand Slam victory, having shared the 2021 Wimbledon crown.
