Youth and Sports Minister and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan Papon has addressed concerns about the International Cricket Council (ICC) and its view on Bangladesh’s preparedness to host the Women’s T20 World Cup this October.

Papon, who recently returned from an ICC meeting in Colombo, Sri Lanka, clarified that despite international media reports suggesting the ICC had reservations due to political unrest and recent internet outages in Bangladesh, no such concerns were raised during the meeting.

“The ICC has understood that everything is fine in Bangladesh,” Papon told reporters at the sports ministry on Sunday. He reassured that the international cricket body’s apprehensions were alleviated upon his presence at the meeting. "When I went there (Sri Lanka), the condition of the country seemed concerning due to communication issues. However, after seeing me, the ICC realized that everything was in order,” Papon explained.

The Women's T20 World Cup will take place in Dhaka and Sylhet from October 3 to 20. Papon also revealed that the next ICC board meeting, which is expected to include the election of a new committee, will be held in Dhaka. “The next board meeting of the ICC will be in Dhaka. The election is also scheduled to take place here,” he said.

Discussing the upcoming ICC elections, Papon noted, “The possibility of elections is high. The current chairman will hold his final board meeting in October, and we expect to receive the election manifesto soon.” He emphasized the significance of the decisions made during this period, which will influence cricket funding and match allocations for the next eight years.

Papon stated that he is currently focused on ICC and ACC matters to ensure a smooth transition for future BCB presidents and to avoid any issues with international cricket governing bodies.
