Rangpur Riders displayed a dominant performance, securing a convincing 77-run victory over Sylhet Strikers in their sixth match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Asked to bat first, Rangpur posted a respectable total of 162-7. Pakistan star Babar Azam continued his excellent form in the BPL, contributing a solid 47 runs off 37 balls, including seven boundaries. Despite the early dismissal of opening partner Brandon King for just 1, Babar's innings provided a good start for Rangpur. Captain Nurul Hasan Sohan played a crucial role, scoring 46 off 30, and Azamatullah Omarzai added a rapid 22 off 14, guiding the team to a competitive total.
Sylhet Strikers struggled, with their innings folding for just 85 runs in 16.5 overs. Rangpur's bowlers dominated the proceedings, led by the experienced Mohammad Nabi, who claimed 3-17, and Mahedi Hasan, who returned figures of 3-13. Captain Shakib Al Hasan also made a significant impact with the ball, finishing with 2-18.
Shakib's bowling performance, despite facing limitations in batting due to an eyesight problem, played a crucial role in restricting Sylhet. Samit Patel had earlier tried to contain the run flow, taking 2-14, but Rangpur's batting depth proved crucial.
Sylhet's top-order struggled against the bowling attack, with Mahedi dismissing Najmul Hossain Shanto and Omarzai removing Harry Tector. Shakib later got rid of Samit Patel and captain Mohammad Mithun, key contributors in Sylhet's previous victory against Chattogram.
Rangpur Riders overtook Khulna and Chattogram on the basis of net run rate with their decisive win, taking the first spot on the points table with eight points from six games. After losing six of their previous seven games, Sylhet Strikers withered away at the bottom of the table.
