Sri Lankan spin legend Rangana Herath has parted ways with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), ending his tenure as the national team's spin bowling consultant. The news was confirmed by BCB's cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus on Saturday.
"He is no longer with us," said Yunus during a media briefing. "Our proposal did not align with his expectations, and he is no longer under contract with us."
Herath, one of the most successful left-arm spinners in cricket history, joined the Bangladesh team in July 2021 initially on a temporary basis. He impressed the board with his contributions and was subsequently appointed as the full-time spin bowling coach in November 2021 for a two-year term.
Herath's tenure saw him work closely with young Bangladeshi spinners, helping them develop their skills and refine their techniques. His vast experience and knowledge were considered invaluable assets to the team.
However, despite the BCB's desire to extend his contract, differences in expectations led to an amicable separation. Herath declined the board's revised offer, which reportedly involved a reduced workload compared to his previous role.
Herath's departure marks a significant change for Bangladesh's cricket coaching staff. The BCB is yet to announce a replacement, leaving a crucial position vacant as the team gears up for upcoming challenges.
