The Colorado Rockies snapped their three-game losing streak with a 7-3 victory over the San Diego Padres in Denver, thanks to key contributions from Charlie Blackmon and Brendan Rodgers. Blackmon homered as part of a two-hit night, while Rodgers also went deep, hitting his 10th home run of the season. Rookie Jordan Beck added three hits to support starter Cal Quantrill, who delivered a solid performance on the mound.
San Diego's Ha-Seong Kim and Xander Bogaerts both homered, with Kim's two-run shot in the second inning being his 11th of the season, and Bogaerts' solo homer in the fourth marking his sixth. Despite these efforts, the Padres couldn't overcome their early deficit. San Diego has been strong in the second half of the season with a 19-5 record, but three of those losses have come against the NL's bottom teams, the Marlins and Rockies.
Quantrill (8-8) managed to navigate some early trouble, allowing three runs on six hits over five innings while striking out five. The Padres had an opportunity to close the gap in the sixth when Jackson Merrill tripled with one out, but a double play grounded by Kim ended the threat. Colorado added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, as Michael Toglia doubled and was driven in by Beck’s third hit, sealing the Padres' fate.
Padres' starter Matt Waldron (7-10) struggled, giving up seven runs on nine hits over 5 2/3 innings, despite striking out six. The loss cooled off the Padres, who had been on a hot streak in the second half of the season.
