On Saturday Februay 3rd, at the PGA Tour's Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Wyndham Clark, the defending US Open champion, stunned everyone by breaking the course record at Pebble Beach. Clark's remarkable 12-under par third round of 60 has positioned him as the leader at 17-under 199 through 54 holes, holding a one-stroke advantage over rising Swedish star Ludvig Aberg, who carded a 67.

Despite his exceptional performance, Clark's pursuit of a rare sub-60 score came agonizingly close. Needing an eagle on the par-5 18th to finish on 59, his 26-foot putt stopped just inches short of the hole. The 30-year-old American, a two-time winner on the PGA Tour last season, expressed his satisfaction with the round, acknowledging the missed opportunities but expressing joy at shooting 12 under.

Clark's round included two eagles, with an eagle on the par-5 second and another on the par-5 sixth, where he drained a 42-foot putt. Taking advantage of slow greens, he made three consecutive birdies to reach the turn in 28 strokes.

The previous course record of 62, set in 1983 by Tom Kite and matched by David Duval in 1997, Patrick Cantlay in 2021, and Matthias Schwab in 2022, was shattered by Clark's exceptional performance.

Weather permitting, Clark faces a challenge in the final round from Ludvig Aberg, who shot a bogey-free 67, and France's Matthieu Pavon, the winner of last week's Farmers Insurance Open, who sits third on the leaderboard at 201 after his 66.

Pavon, the first Frenchman to win on the modern US PGA Tour, attributed his recent success to a combination of factors, including gaining confidence in his game.

As the tournament unfolds, the golfing world eagerly awaits the final round showdown at Pebble Beach, where Clark's record-breaking performance has added an extra layer of excitement to the prestigious event.
