Shikhar Dhawan, the flamboyant Indian batsman, has announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket at the age of 38. Dhawan, who last played as the captain of the Punjab Kings in this year's Indian Premier League (IPL), shared the news on social media, expressing his gratitude for the support and love he has received throughout his career.
Dhawan highlighted his decision to retire as a necessary step to move forward in life. During his career, he amassed 2,315 runs in Test cricket with seven centuries and was a prolific player in One Day Internationals (ODIs), scoring 6,793 runs in 167 matches at an average of 44.11. In the IPL, he is the second-highest run-scorer after Virat Kohli, with 6,769 runs across 221 innings at a strike rate of 127.14.
His final appearance for India was in an ODI series against Bangladesh in December 2022. Reflecting on his career, Dhawan expressed contentment with his contributions to the Indian team, emphasizing his happiness in having played for his country.
