Sept 17, V7N - Starling Marte delivered a game-winning single in the 10th inning, lifting the New York Mets to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Washington Nationals on Monday night. After an intentional walk to Tyrone Taylor, Francisco Alvarez advanced pinch runner Harrison Bader to third with a fly ball to deep right field. Marte then lined a 3-1 fastball from Nationals reliever Jacob Barnes into left field, easily scoring Taylor to secure the Mets' 11th walk-off win of the season.

With the victory, the Mets (82-68) snapped a two-game losing streak and gained a one-game lead over the Atlanta Braves in the race for the third National League wild-card spot, as the Braves lost to the Dodgers that same evening.

Reed Garrett (8-5) pitched a perfect top of the 10th inning, setting the stage for Marte's heroics. Mets starter Sean Manaea had a strong outing, allowing one run on four hits over seven innings while striking out six. Nationals starter Jake Irvin was also solid, giving up just one run on four hits in 7 1/3 innings, striking out five and walking one.

The Nationals took an early 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Jose Tena, who has now reached base safely in 12 straight games, hit an RBI single. The Mets tied the game in the eighth when Jose Iglesias hit an infield single to score Taylor after he led off the inning with a double. However, the Mets couldn’t capitalize further, and the game went into extra innings before Marte's decisive hit.
