Chinese tech giant Honor introduced its latest Magic 6 Pro smartphone to global markets, showcasing an innovative eye-tracking AI feature. This functionality enables users to remotely control and maneuver their vehicles simply by gazing at their phone screens. Although the tool is currently available in China, Honor aims to integrate it into commercial offerings worldwide.
Formerly part of Huawei Technologies until its acquisition by state-owned Shenzhen Zhixin New Information Technology Co in November 2020, Honor had previously limited its phone releases to the Chinese market. However, with the global launch of the Magic 6 Pro, the company seeks to expand its reach and appeal to international consumers.
The unveiling comes ahead of the annual Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, where tech and telecom companies are eager to showcase new products and features. With a focus on generative AI, manufacturers hope to revitalize the smartphone market, which has experienced sluggish growth in recent times.
In addition to its AI-driven smartphone features, Honor is also working on integrating the LlaMA 2 large language model (LLM) into its devices globally. Similar to ChatGPT, this tool enhances user interactions and experiences on Honor smartphones.
Competing with industry giants like Apple and Oppo in China's smartphone market, Honor aims to strengthen its position with innovative offerings. According to International Data Corporation data, Honor held a significant 17.1% market share in China in 2023, closely trailing behind Apple's 17.3%.
Alongside the Magic 6 Pro smartphone, Honor is launching its new MagicBook Pro 16 laptop, featuring AI capabilities that enable seamless cross-device functionality. Users can effortlessly transfer applications, such as messaging apps, between devices with a simple drag-and-drop gesture.
George Zhao, CEO of Honor, expressed confidence in the transformative potential of collaborative synergy, particularly in the AI era. With its latest product releases and AI-driven features, Honor aims to deliver enhanced user experiences and further solidify its position in the global tech market.
