Dhaka, August 17— The Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Authority has issued a special advisory to airlines and passengers concerning the spread of monkeypox. The warning, communicated through a circular signed by Airport Executive Director Group Captain Md. Kamrul Islam, urges heightened vigilance in light of the disease's potential spread.
The circular emphasizes that airlines must be particularly cautious and promptly report any passengers displaying symptoms of monkeypox to the airport's health department. Passengers who develop symptoms within 21 days of arriving in Bangladesh are also requested to contact the health authorities via the hotline 10655.
To mitigate the risk of an outbreak, a dedicated medical team is stationed at the airport's arrival channel, ready to handle potential cases.
The alert follows a broader notification from the Department of Health, issued on Saturday, which highlighted the risk of monkeypox being transmitted by travelers arriving in Bangladesh from countries or regions affected by the disease.
The airport authority and health department are taking these measures to prevent the spread of monkeypox, ensuring that both local residents and international visitors remain safe from the disease.
