Beirut, Sep 29 (V7N) — The body of Hezbollah leader Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah was recovered unharmed from the site of an Israeli airstrike in a southern suburb of Beirut, medical and security sources confirmed to Reuters on Sunday. Nasrallah, who led the Iranian-backed Lebanese armed group for over three decades, was killed in a massive airstrike targeting Hezbollah’s underground headquarters in the Dahiyeh district.

While Hezbollah confirmed Nasrallah’s death in a statement on Saturday, it did not specify the exact circumstances of his death. According to both sources, there were no visible injuries on his body, and the cause of death is believed to be blunt force trauma resulting from the force of the blast.

The Israeli airstrike, launched on Friday, specifically targeted the underground headquarters of Hezbollah, which was concealed beneath a residential building in Beirut’s Hezbollah-controlled southern suburb. Nasrallah’s death is seen as a significant loss for both Hezbollah and its chief ally, Iran, given his role in transforming the group into a regional power over the last 32 years.

Following the news, Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, declared five days of mourning across Iran on Saturday. During the announcement, Khamenei warned, "Enemies will not be released without revenge," and added that Nasrallah's ideology will continue to inspire resistance despite his death.

Nasrallah’s death has already triggered a wave of grief and anger across Hezbollah’s supporters, and it is expected to have a profound impact on the region’s political and military landscape. The timing and location of his funeral remain unannounced.
