Zaporizhia, Sep 30 (V7N) – At least 16 people were injured, including two children, in a series of bomb attacks carried out by Russian forces in Ukraine’s southeastern Zaporizhia region. The strikes, which occurred between 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. local time on Sunday, targeted rail links, infrastructure, and residential and commercial buildings, according to regional Governor Ivan Fedorov.

The attack involved 13 guided bombs fired at multiple locations across three cities, Reuters reported. Among the injured were teenagers aged 8 and 17.

In a Telegram post, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shared images of the aftermath, which showed burnt cars, damaged buildings, and rescue teams battling fires. He confirmed that several residential buildings and city infrastructure, including rail connections, had been hit.

Local officials stated that train services were delayed, and some routes had to be altered due to the damage. Rescuers were deployed to clear debris and assist those affected.

Moscow has yet to comment on the attacks, but these guided bombs, according to Ukrainian officials, are difficult to intercept using air defense systems.

Zaporizhia, an industrial hub located around 50 kilometers from the frontline, has become a frequent target of Russian bombing in recent weeks. Parts of the Zaporizhia region remain under Russian control, and it is home to Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.

President Zelensky reported that Russian forces used nearly 900 guided bombs, over 300 drones, and more than 40 missiles during attacks on Ukrainian towns and villages last week.
