Oct 17, V7N- Syrian state media reported that an Israeli airstrike on Thursday triggered fires in the coastal city of Latakia, a key stronghold of President Bashar al-Assad. The attack led to anti-aircraft defenses being activated, with SANA, the official news agency, noting that the fires were caused by the Israeli aggression near the entrance to Latakia.

The city is also known for its proximity to Hezbollah, the Lebanese militant group that is currently engaged in conflict with Israel. The Israeli military, which has carried out numerous strikes in Syria over the years, declined to comment on the specific incident when approached by AFP.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the airstrike targeted a weapons depot located within the city.
