Baghdad, Oct 20 (V7N)- The Iraqi government is reportedly taking steps to cancel the broadcasting license of Saudi Arabia's MBC television channel in Iraq following a violent attack on its office in Baghdad. According to a report by the US-based *New York Post* on Sunday, October 20, the decision comes in response to growing public anger after the channel labeled several Middle Eastern armed groups, including Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces, as terrorists.

On Saturday morning, a crowd of 400 to 500 people stormed the MBC studio in Baghdad, setting parts of the building on fire and damaging equipment such as computers and other electronic components. The attack came in reaction to MBC’s portrayal of the aforementioned groups, which has been controversial in Iraq due to their significant influence in the region.

Following the attack, the Iraqi government increased security around the channel’s offices. In response to the incident, the Saudi government has announced its intention to conduct an investigation into the matter. The situation has sparked concerns in the region about media freedom and political sensitivities involving armed groups.

Further developments are expected as the Iraqi government moves to revoke MBC’s broadcasting license.
