China and Indonesia have committed to enhancing collaboration across key industries, including lithium, new energy vehicles, green energy, and tourism, as announced in a joint statement on Saturday. This followed talks between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, marking Prabowo’s first official overseas trip since taking office last month. His choice to visit China first signals Jakarta’s emphasis on strengthening strategic ties with Beijing.
The statement outlines intentions to jointly promote growth in global development sectors, exploring potential in fields such as lithium batteries, new energy vehicles, and photovoltaics, while tapping into digital economy and green development opportunities. Additionally, both countries aim to boost their mining collaboration by combining resources and production capacities.
In tourism, they plan to introduce multi-entry, long-term visas and increase direct flights to revitalize travel between the two countries to pre-pandemic levels and beyond. Several agreements were signed during Prabowo’s visit, including ones focused on housing and the export of fresh Indonesian coconuts to China.
