NOV 24,(V7N) - A man was killed early Sunday after opening fire and wounding three members of Jordan's security forces near the Israeli embassy in Amman, state media reported.

According to government spokesman Mohamed Momani, the incident is being treated as a "terrorist attack". He described the attacker as a known criminal with a history of drug-related offences. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances and motives behind the assault, which occurred in the Rabieh district of the capital.

The Public Security Directorate confirmed that the assailant was killed in an exchange of gunfire after engaging security personnel. Three members of the force sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment.

The Israeli embassy in Rabieh has previously been the site of demonstrations, particularly following the eruption of the recent conflict in Gaza. Jordan, despite its 1994 peace treaty with Israel, has witnessed periodic tensions over issues related to Israeli-Palestinian relations.

This attack follows other recent violent incidents, including the deaths of two Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood members in October during a confrontation with Israeli forces near the Dead Sea and a September attack where a Jordanian truck driver killed three Israeli guards at the Allenby crossing.
