Dec 08, (V7N) - At the Doha Forum for political dialogue on Saturday, six media personnel, including AFP journalists Christina Assi and Dylan Collins, were honored for their sacrifices while reporting from conflict zones. The journalists, who were wounded in Lebanon over a year ago, received awards for their courage in covering dangerous stories.

Assi and Collins were among those injured on October 13, 2023, while reporting on clashes between the Israeli army and armed groups in southern Lebanon. They were part of a group of journalists who were struck by an Israeli tank round, which also killed Reuters journalist Issam Abdallah. Assi, who had to have her right leg amputated as a result of the attack, spoke of her determination to continue her work. "I can't wait for the day I get back on my feet and hold my camera again," she said, emphasizing the importance of continuing to fight for justice.

Collins, who had also been injured previously while reporting in Ukraine, reflected on the growing danger for journalists. "It’s never been more dangerous of a time to be a journalist," he said, highlighting the tragic loss of friends in conflicts across Ukraine, Gaza, and Lebanon.

The awards, presented by Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, also recognized Al Jazeera journalists Wael al-Dahdouh and Carmen Joukhadar, Palestinian photojournalist Motaz Azaiza, and Afghan radio journalist Sadaf Popalzai. Funds from the prize will be donated to the Rory Peck Trust, which supports freelance journalists.
