New Delhi, Dec 10 (V7N)- In a chilling development, 40 prominent schools in Delhi, including DPS RK Puram, GD Goenka, British School, and Mothers International School, have received bomb threats via email. The threats, reportedly sent by an organization named ‘KNR,’ have demanded a ransom of approximately ₹25 lakh (28,400 euros) to defuse the alleged bombs.

Threat Details

The emails, sent on Sunday night, claimed that bombs have been strategically planted at the schools. While described as "small and well-hidden," the bombs allegedly pose significant risk to human life despite minimal damage to buildings.

The schools were closed when the threats were received, and no explosives have been discovered during initial searches conducted by the Delhi Police, bomb disposal squads, and fire brigade teams.

Response by Authorities

  • Delhi Police have launched an investigation and are working to identify the individuals behind the emails.
  • Bomb disposal squads and emergency services have been deployed to ensure the safety of the schools and their premises.
  • As of now, the threats appear unsubstantiated, aligning with previous instances of similar hoaxes in India.

Political Reactions

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Singh has criticized the central BJP-led government, stating that the law and order situation in Delhi is deteriorating. She remarked:

"Murders, shootings, and ransom demands have become daily occurrences in Delhi. Now, schools are facing bomb threats. The central government has failed to ensure the safety of citizens."

Context of Threats

In recent years, India has faced multiple bomb threats targeting schools, airports, and railway stations. Most have turned out to be hoaxes. However, the recurrence of such threats underscores a growing concern about public safety and the misuse of digital platforms for spreading panic.

Ongoing Investigation

The Delhi Police have assured that every effort is being made to trace the perpetrators of the email threats and to ensure the safety of students and school staff. For now, the affected schools remain under heightened security.
