Yemen, Jan 01, (V7N) - On December 30 and 31, U.S. military forces carried out air and naval strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, and along the country’s coastline. The strikes targeted key Houthi facilities, including command and control centers, as well as advanced weapon production and storage sites, which contained missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The U.S. military's Central Command confirmed the operation, stating that the strikes were carried out by U.S. Navy ships and aircraft. The Houthis, an Iran-backed militant group, have been attacking commercial shipping in the Red Sea for over a year. They have said that these actions are part of their efforts to enforce a naval blockade on Israel in solidarity with Palestinians amid the ongoing war in Gaza.
Mohammed Abdulsalam, a spokesperson for the Houthis, responded by stating that Yemen would continue to defend itself against foreign aggression. The escalation comes as tensions remain high in the region, with the U.S. and Iran-backed groups engaged in ongoing confrontations that are also linked to broader regional conflicts.
These events highlight the increasing complexity of the Middle East’s security situation, with various countries and militant groups involved in acts of aggression that impact global shipping and the geopolitical landscape.
