Las Vegas, Jan 02, (V7N) — A tragic incident unfolded on the morning of January 1, 2025, when a Tesla Cybertruck exploded near the entrance of Trump International Hotel Las Vegas, leaving one person dead and seven others injured. The explosion occurred around 7:30 a.m. local time, just outside the hotel’s covered entrance on the Las Vegas Strip. Authorities confirmed that one individual inside the Cybertruck was killed, while the seven injured people sustained minor injuries. Fortunately, there are no additional threats to the area.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill addressed the media shortly after the event, assuring the public that there was no ongoing danger. "There does not appear to be any further threat to our community here now," McMahill said, emphasizing that the situation was under control.

The explosion and fire came amid heightened security concerns following a similar incident earlier in the day in New Orleans, where a terror attack involving a truck resulted in the deaths of at least 10 people. Sheriff McMahill acknowledged the heightened alert in Las Vegas, saying, "We're very well aware of what has happened in New Orleans with the event that occurred there, and the number of victims there and the additional IEDs. So, as you can imagine, with an explosion here on iconic Las Vegas Boulevard, we are taking all of the precautions that we need to take to keep our community safe."

Colette Robertson, a hotel guest from Orlando, Florida, was on the 38th floor of the Trump International Hotel when she heard loud explosions coming from below. "All we could see was pluming smoke coming out," Robertson said, recalling the chaotic scene. She and other guests were evacuated from the hotel about an hour later, with Robertson expressing concern about her flight and belongings. "We were supposed to fly out at 2:30," Robertson told reporters, noting that her luggage and rental car were still inside the hotel.

The explosion and subsequent evacuation caused significant disruptions on the Las Vegas Strip. Local authorities have cordoned off the area, urging the public to stay clear of the hotel’s vicinity. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the explosion, though there has been no indication of foul play or any connection to terrorism at this time.

The Trump International Hotel Las Vegas issued a statement thanking first responders for their swift actions and reassured the public that the safety and well-being of guests and staff remain their top priority. The statement posted on social media read, "We extend our gratitude to the Las Vegas Fire Department and local law enforcement for their swift response."

Guests who were evacuated from the hotel have been relocated to nearby Resorts World Las Vegas, where they are being provided with accommodations and assistance as the investigation continues. Local authorities have asked visitors to avoid the area as they work to secure the scene and gather information about the cause of the explosion.

This explosion near one of Las Vegas's iconic landmarks has left the city shaken, but authorities have emphasized that they are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the public's safety moving forward.
