Assam, Jan 07, (V7N) - Several miners are feared trapped inside a coal mine in the remote Dima Hasao district of Assam, northeastern India. The incident occurred on January 6, 2025, when flooding trapped the miners inside the mine. Rescue operations are currently underway, with authorities working to determine the exact number of people trapped. Initial reports suggest that the number may be in the single digits.

The Assam state authorities have called for assistance from the Army, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has also been deployed to assist in the rescue efforts. The mine is located in a hilly, hard-to-reach area, which is complicating the rescue operation.

As of now, the authorities are focusing on locating the trapped miners and ensuring their safety. The flooding is suspected to be the cause of the incident, and investigations are ongoing to assess the situation. The government has pledged to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause and ensure stronger safety measures to prevent such accidents in the future.

The local community has expressed concern and is offering support to the families of the trapped miners while the rescue operations continue. Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area to allow the rescue teams to work without hindrance.
