Texas, Jan 27, (V7N) - One person is dead and eight others are injured after a shooting at a nightclub in Amarillo, Texas, according to police.

The incident occurred early Sunday at around 2:05 a.m. local time, when the Amarillo Emergency Communications Center received multiple calls about the shooting at a nightclub on South Polk Street. The Amarillo Police Department later confirmed the details in a press release.

Upon arriving at the scene, police found nine people who had been shot. Six victims were transported to the hospital, while the others made their own way to medical care, authorities said.

One of the victims, identified as 25-year-old John Love Louima, later died from his injuries at the hospital. Police said he had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The remaining victims are receiving medical treatment, but their specific conditions have not been disclosed.

Police later arrested three suspects in connection with the shooting. Two of the suspects, Robert Kenney Knox, 23, and Nahryah Hilesta Ines Hayes, 21, were charged with murder and multiple counts of “deadly conduct/discharge of a firearm.” The third suspect, who was in the backseat of the car, was charged with public intoxication.

According to authorities, the shooting began when a car approached the nightclub, and a person exited the vehicle and opened fire on a large crowd. After firing several rounds, the suspect got back into the car and fled the scene.

A witness followed the car as it fled, and led police to the suspects’ location, which resulted in their arrest.

Police believe the shooting may have been sparked by an argument that took place inside the nightclub earlier in the evening. It is believed the suspects left the club after the altercation and returned to carry out the shooting.
