Prayagraj, Jan 29 (V7N) — A tragic stampede occurred at the Kumbh Mela, the world's largest Hindu religious gathering, in Prayagraj before dawn on Wednesday, raising fears of multiple casualties.

The incident took place as crores of devotees gathered at the Triveni Sangam to take a holy dip on what is considered the most auspicious day of the six-week-long festival. Reports indicate that the first stampede happened around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, with chaos continuing until early Wednesday morning.

According to Deutsche Welle, rescue teams are on the scene, and the injured are being treated at nearby hospitals. Some hospital sources have confirmed that many people were brought in dead, though official figures have not yet been released.
