WASHINGTON, Feb 16, 2026 (V7N) - The White House confirmed Sunday that US President Donald Trump’s top envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner will travel to Geneva this week for negotiations with Iranian officials over Tehran’s nuclear program.

A US official told AFP the two men, who have led Washington’s Iran negotiations, will represent the United States. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will head Tehran’s delegation, also meeting Swiss and Omani counterparts and the International Atomic Energy Agency chief.

Talks resumed earlier this month in Muscat after collapsing last year when Israel launched a 12-day bombing campaign against Iran, prompting US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. The Geneva discussions will be indirect, as in Oman.

The negotiations come amid heightened tensions, with Washington deploying an aircraft carrier group to the region following Iran’s deadly crackdown on anti-government protests last month.

After the Iran talks, Witkoff and Kushner are also expected to join US-brokered negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Geneva.
